The Vintage Sedan Racers Group announces new races for the Eastern U.S.

The Vintage Sedan Racers Group (VSRG) announced today the formation of an Eastern United States Region of the organization to be based in North Carolina.  The newly formed region will promote at least two Magnaflow Vintage 2.5 Challenge races in 2001 to compliment the 6 race series to be held at West Coast tracks.

The Director of the new region will be Peter Krause, a well-known vintage racer, vintage car race preparation shop owner and vintage race event organizer.  Peter has specialized in servicing sports cars and vintage racecars for almost 20 years.  He is an experienced and successful vintage racer, receiving Vintage Motorsport magazine's "Spirit of Vintage Racing" award for 1997.  He has also been named Mechanic of the Year by SVRA (Sportscar Vintage Racing Assoc.) and was awarded the BMW Cup at the Lime Rock Vintage Fall Festival.  He's an instructor at various racing and performance driving schools, active in the Sports Car Club of America, Alfa Romeo Owners Club, and Ferrari Club of America, and the author of several magazine articles on sports cars and racing

Under Peter’s direction, VSRG-East has scheduled two races for 2001 and other dates are expected to be announced in the near future.  The first VSRG-East race will be held May 5th and 6th, 2001 in conjunction second annual Governor's Cup Races at Virginia International Raceway.  VSRG-East will be featured along with the Vintage Sports Car Club of America, BMW Car Club of America Club Racing and the Third United States Bugatti Grand Prix.

On the weekend of June 8, 2001 VSRG-East will participate in Virginia International Raceway’s Motorsports Country Club and Vintage Promotions second Annual Homecoming event.  In addition to VSRG the weekend will feature the Gold Cup Historic Races. Carroll Shelby, Bob Bondurant and others well known drivers will be on hand to celebrate the past at this glorious facility's "Birthday Party".

The Magnaflow Vintage 2.5 Challenge series is a new vintage race series based on the highly successful 1971-72 SCCA Trans-AM 2.5 Challenge that featured under 2.5 liter sedans.  Typical marques involved in the series are Alfa Romeo, BMW and Datsun.  The original series was noted for it’s close, exciting competition and proved to be the high point of the 1972 Trans-Am season when the larger bore class for Mustang’s and Camaro’s was cancelled.  The recreation of this race series was made possible by the sponsorship of Magnaflow Performance Exhaust (www.magnaflow.com) of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA.
