Vintage 2.5 Challenge

New windshield sticker, posters, and fliers are available at each event courtesy of G2 Graphics and iRPM. G2 Graphics will be printing a special collector’s poster for the Portland Historics that will be handed out at the event. In addition VSRG still has a very limited number of autographed “Trans-Am The pony cars wars” books available for purchase. These are signed by both Horst Kwech and John Morton which makes them a real collector’s item as well as a great read. To order one of these Contact Kevin Mckee at kmckee966@earthlink.net. Terry Tinney of Performance Motors and Jon Norman of Alfa Parts of Berkeley also continue their sponsorship and contingency programs for the series. Please continue to support our sponsors as they make this series possible.
Fontana- With this race only a few days off we are sure many of you are in car prep mode and focused on last minute details. Keep in mind that this year the chicane will not be used so gear your car appropriately. Entries for this event are strong so there should be plenty of tight racing throughout the field. Fred has confirmed that the 2.5 Challenge cars will all pit together in a more desirable spot than last year. More spectators are expected this year so have your car looking its’ best.
Portland Historics- Event planning is going well and entries are strong to this point. At last count there were seventeen California entries with several more from the Northwest Region. VSRG expects a large and deep field for this event to include John Morton driving the Neely Motorsports prepared Datsun 510 and Jon Norman making a return appearance in his Alfa GTV Trans-Am car. If you plan to attend this wonderful event make sure you enter immediately, this is not a club event and it is important to enter early. Early entry is important at all spectator events since often there is a printed program and driver packages. The event is the premier Historic race and this year the 2.5 Challenge is not only invited but the Featured Group. Let’s have a great turn out and show the spectators how terrific this series and its’ drivers are.
Tech Tools Fund- To date we have received donations from a few drivers and a generous offer from Longacer Racing. Soon appearing at all events will be ramps for our scales which will make weighing cars much easier. Top cars will be weighed after timed practice, the qualifying race, and the final race. Other cars will be randomly selected for weigh-in after selected sessions. Bore & Stroke tools have also been ordered to accurately measure the motors of competitors. VSRG has acquired cylinder heads for each type of car running in the series. It is our hope that with the heads and new tools it will be unnecessary to tear down motors of top cars. However, this option has not been ruled out.
Race Reports- We have been a little behind on these but have now caught up. We will be posting the writeups for Willow Springs and Thunderhill on the website after our Fontana race but the links below will take you to them now.
Get Involved- VSRG is looking for a few people to help with various duties behind the scenes. Jim McAdory, Fred Schueddekopp, and Kevin McKee have been running VSRG a purely volunteer organization now for almost three years with little help and very little funding. We can use the help in the following areas, race reporting and write-ups, event coordination, sponsorship funding, and trackside support. Please, if you feel you could add to the organization in a constructive way (more than just your opinion about rules) please contact Kevin McKee @ (415)760-6569. Our families would appreciate your efforts.
